Dufferin in the Community

Building sustainable communities and a being good neighbour:

At Dufferin Aggregates, we take great pride in our contributions to improve the quality of life for the members of our workforce, their families and the communities around our operations. Giving back to the community is a priority at Dufferin Aggregates. We will work together with the community to determine how best to give back and be a valued neighbour. A few examples of things we do at other operations across Ontario include:

Earth Week Tree Planting Event

Every year during Earth Week, members of communities across Ontario and the employees of Dufferin Aggregates join forces for annual tree plantings. In 2012, hundreds of local community members participated by planting more than 12,000 trees around Ontario. Since 2001, Dufferin, together with the local community, has planted more than 200,000 white pine, eastern white cedar, white birch, poplar and white spruce trees on rehabilitated lands during Earth Week activities.

"Open Houses"

Many of our sites throughout Ontario host annual "Open Houses" for community members. Neighbours, friends, family and elected officials gather at the local site to learn more about the operations, about rehabilitation efforts, and have some good old fashion family fun! We often conduct a food drive or other charitable event at the Open House, with proceeds going to a local charity.

Donations and Product Support

Dufferin Aggregates provides financial and material (products) donations to local charities, schools and other organizations that help drive local community development. Employees of Dufferin Aggregates also take great pride in and volunteer at local fundraising and community events.

Employee Volunteerism

Dufferin proudly supports the commitment of several employees who volunteer their time as firefighters with the local Fire Departments.

Providing an educational platform

Dufferin Aggregates places emphasis on creating awareness about the natural environment and the legacy opportunities that can be realized when sustainable aggregate extraction is coupled with a strong rehabilitation vision.

Dufferin engages in after-use visioning with the community and environmental organizations. Employees at local operations often act as tour guides as we welcome the community to our sites to learn more about aggregate operations, progressive rehabilitation or local geology. Our rehabilitation efforts enhance or create habitat for various species of plants and wildlife and often create strategic linkages to forest and natural heritage systems.
